The county was named for the historic city of Pueblo which took its name from the Spanish language word meaning “town” or “village”. Pueblo County comprises the Pueblo, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.  the county has a total area of 2,398 square miles (6,210 km2), of which 2,386 square miles (6,180 km2) is land and 12 square miles (31 km2) (0.5%) is water.  The average elevation is 4,692 feet.   there were 154,712 people, 59,956 households, and 40,084 families living in the county. The population density is 59 people per square mile (23/km2). There were 67,314 housing units at an average density of 25 per square mile (10/km2). Pueblo county is 100 miles south of Denver.
