Fremont County
Canon City is the County seat for Fremont County and is located at the
mouth of the Royal Gorge Bridge (the highest suspension bridge in the
world) in the foothills of the Rockies. It is just 45 miles southwest of
Colorado Springs and 39 miles west of Pueblo. The Arkansas River extends
the entire 60-mile width of Fremont County and has the best white-water
fro rafting in the state of Colorado. Two National Forests in Fremont
County provide great opportunities fro skiing, boating, fishing and
snowmobile within easy driving distance. With the new tourist train ride
through the Royal Gorge and many other attractions in the Climate Capital
of the Colorado it's no wonder industries are moving here.
The new Pueblo Community College, Fremont Campus will open fall 2001 to
serve the 45,000 residents of the County. Holnam, Inc. is completing the
construction of their new $230 million dry cement plant in Eastern Fremont
County. Fremont Economic Development Corp. is developing a new Business
Park at the local airport. The Fremont County Airport is one of the
fastest growing airports in Colorado, with two flights a day for the UPS
distribution center located at the airport. FEDC has an incubator for
start-up businesses that need some assistance in locating to the area.
Florence is located 9 miles east of Canon City and has potential for
industrial and commercial locations. They have adequate water, up-to-date
planning and zoning regulations, superb small-town atmosphere and a
wonderful year-round climate. They have a lot of new homes to attract
residents to their 4,500 plus population, There are several industrial
sites available in Florence.
Western Fremont County has several smaller towns along the Arkansas
River with some of the best fishing in Colorado. Swissville, Howard,
Cotapaxi, Coaldale and Texas Creek have all grown significantly over the
past decade. These towns offer a relaxed atmosphere and magnificent views.
With fiber optics being installed throughout the area, this is a prime
location for all high-tech industries that are moving out of the metro
areas. There are 3 school districts in the County with some of the best
educators in the business to provide the needed schooling.
