Baca County
Baca County is situated
in the far southeast corner of Colorado. The area is a unique combination
of plains, canyons and buttes that create a picturesque open landscape.
The southeast corner of Baca County is crossed by the Cimarron branch
of the Santa Fe Trail. The trails served as an important route for
commerce and cultural exchange in the development of the West beginning in
the mid 1800s.
Baca County offers opportunities for camping and swimming at Two Buttes
Reservoir State Wildlife Area. There is great Canadian and snow gees
hunting at Turks Pond. Other small game such as ring-necked pheasant,
turkey, quail, duck and dove are hunted in Baca County. Black Hole and Two
Buttes Reservoir provide fishing for bass, perch, trout and walleye.
Picture Canyon offers a unique combination of historical resources.
Petroglyphs that were made by American Indians are great fun to view. The
Equinox Festivals are held every spring and fall in Springfield. This is a
great time to see Crack Cave and find out more about a prehistoric
calendar.
