SOUTHERN
COLORADO
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT

Agriculture
The predominant economic engine
for the District is agriculture. Field crops and beef drive many of the
counties economic condition. SCEDD is always ready and eager to help the
counties develop alternative crops and value-added agriculture. Using
sunflower oil for industrial uses is one of the ventures SCEDD has helped
develop. Dairy products, oil seed crushing and soy bean introduction are
some of the projects SCEDD has been involved in over the past few years.
Using crop by-products for construction materials, compost for bedding
plant operations, or filler for composite materials is within reach with
the help of local banks and entrepreneurs.
Transportation of products to
market is an important concern for the agricultural community. Better
roads and rail transportation are frequently discussed at regional
meetings and support for infrastructure and operators can be expected for
those interested in locating into the area.
